The European Sport for All Network (ESFAN) was founded in Bordeaux, France in November 11, 2006. 15 European Sport for All organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of ESFAN and appointed the European members of the TAFISA board to further develop the new organization. As a result in June 2007 ESFAN was registered at the law court in Bordeaux as a non profit body.

It has been the common understanding of the founding members that ESFAN’s major objectives are to

• promote Sport for All and physical activity in Europe
• provide a network to promote and support the systematic transfer and exchange of experiences, best practice examples, know how etc. in Sport for All and physical activity
• assure a closer cooperation between its members
• offer special services to its members

Thus, ESFAN is prepared to fill in a gap in Europe and intends to fulfil its special function in conjunction and partnership with the existing framework of Sport and physical activity in Europe.

ESFAN considers itself as the regional body of the internationally leading Sport for All organization TAFISA and in consequence offers to all European TAFISA members to become a ESFAN member without additional fee.

ESFAN is growing constantly and incorporates at present 25 organizations from 22 countries. It is linked with major European bodies in sports and physical activity namely ENGSO, EFCS, European Commission, WHO, HEPA etc.
